John Akomfrah - The Stuart Hall Project
With The Stuart Hall Project, British filmmaker John Akomfrah has dedicated an impressive cinematic portrait to the sociologist Stuart Hall who died in 2014. Made up from archival material, including Hall‘s own television programs, and accompanied by Miles Davis’s music which was dear to Hall, Akomfrah’s film situates the critical thinking and political commitment of one of the most important public intellectuals and co-founders of Cultural Studies in his youthful experiences in postcolonial Jamaica, the battles of decolonization, and the emergence of the New Left movement in the UK in the 1960s.
