03. July 2014, 19:00
lecture

Seminar room of the ERH

The courageous artist from Turkey does not aim to please in the conventional sense with her art. Rather, she draws attention in a provocative way to various forms of oppression of women and the places of their lack of freedom with performances, actions, videos and photographs. Family, religion, immigration, prostitution and transsexuality are the major themes of Şükran Moral, in which social marginalization and restriction of freedom are intertwined with violence.

Prof. Dr. Christine Eifler is the spokesperson of the Center for Gender Studies at the University of Bremen. After studying philosophy in Leipzig and Berlin, she worked at research institutions and at the Humboldt University in Berlin. This was followed by research projects at the universities in Hanover and Bremen. From 2003 to 2006, she was the director of the Heinrich Böll Foundation-funded doctoral program Gender Dynamics in Violent Conflicts. Her research and publications focus on the military and gender relations; women's issues and women's politics in the GDR; cultural differences between East and West.
