B@droom - eine Aktion mit Jugendlichen

01. August 2010, 15:00 - 18:00
workshop

Exhibition tour and action for young people Sunday, August 1, 2010, 3 - 6 p.m.

In cooperation with the Ferienpass of the city of Oldenburg, this coming Sunday Anke Kühl and Mareike Willer, students of the B.A. Material Culture: Textiles at the Carl von Ossietzky University, will conduct a mediation project on the exhibition "MyWar. Participation in Times of War."

Together with young people, they will discuss selected works from the exhibition. After an introduction to digital image processing, one of the tasks of the visitors to the action day is to produce new interpretations of the work "Versions" by Oliver Laric. The series "Versions" itself is based on a manipulated photograph that was published in July 2008 by the Iranian government as proof of the successful test of new long-range missiles and thus as a demonstration of its power. The manipulation was quickly uncovered via the Internet and caricatured in various forums through exaggerated image montages. Oliver Laric, in turn, collected the original and the fakes (each of the Iranian government as well as those of the Internet public) and presents them in Oldenburg as analog airbrush images. Laric thus simultaneously points to the ease with which digital photography can be manipulated and to the critical potential of net communication.

In the "B@droom" project, young people are invited to present their own views on the exhibition and the topic of war in text and images. The resulting comments are then projected onto a bed. This bed symbolizes how images of war intentionally or unintentionally - via entertainment media and reporting - invade the private sphere.
