Workshop: Polit-Clips

19/20 October and 14/15 December 2002

The theory and practice of the propaganda art film.

The short film clip with political content has tradidition: In the 20s polemic short films could be seen at the cinema, in 1968 the Dziga Vertov Group (including P.Gorrin, J.L.Godard) produced propaganda against the Viet Nam War.

In the 90s, in Berlin and elsewehere the attempt was made to establish a form of anti-publicity in popular, public leisure cinemas with A-clip. The first set of 1997 ran parallel to the "InnenStadtAktionen" (Inner City Actions) in terms of time and content. The second set was produced in 1999. The third set is now in production. A-clips are a commentary on the changes in the urban and the political fields. Anyone can be a producer.

With these and other examples, the workshop will discuss the opportunities in such practice. Before the second meeting in December the students will make short video clips and work on possibilites for their distribution.
