Vacation Pass Trickbox: Scene 2, Take 1…And Action!
Workshop for Children ages 6 to 8, July 18–21

As part of Oldenburg's Vacation Pass project, two media educators helped children ages 6 to 8 create their own animated cartoons. The children built the scenery for the films, where all different kinds of dragons, ghosts, and animals could come to life using the »stop-motion« technique. The children could also bring along books and let their favorite characters and stories inspire them. There were two groups of children. Each group developed their own script, and then used dough, pencils, fabric, paper, and cardboard to create film sets in »Trickboxes«. Each scene was arranged individually, and the children used professional lighting to aid them in filming their digital trick films. Spectators could view each step of this process via a beamer that projected images of the activities. Child participants recorded the sound for their trick videos, and each took home a copy of the film on DVD.
